    Who We Help

Our clients are adults and adolescents aged 12 and over navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence-related distress or relationship difficulties. Many come to us after a specific event. Others have been carrying the effects of something ongoing, like childhood trauma or a difficult family history, for years without naming it.

You do not need a diagnosis or a GP referral to start. A referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan are only required if you want to claim a Medicare rebate.

    Our Clinical Psychology Treatment Approaches

No single therapy suits every person or every problem, so we draw on several evidence-based approaches and tailor the mix to you. Read more about what integrative therapy means and how we combine methods within one coherent plan.

    • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they carry less charge in daily life. It is widely used for single-incident and complex trauma. Learn more about EMDR therapy.
    • Parts Work (often known as Internal Family Systems or IFS) is an approach that helps you understand the different “parts” of your personality, such as the part that criticises, the part that avoids, or the part that strives for perfection. Rather than viewing these internal voices as conflicts to be suppressed, parts work helps you build a calm, compassionate, and self-led understanding of why these parts exist and how they try to protect you. Learn more about IFS and parts work therapy.
    • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT helps you make room for difficult thoughts and feelings while staying connected to what matters to you, building flexibility and resilience.
    • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). DBT offers practical skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance and healthier relationships, often useful alongside trauma or neurodivergence-related challenges.
    • Somatic and attachment-focused care. Trauma is held in the body as well as the mind. We incorporate body awareness and attachment principles to support nervous system regulation and safer relationships.

    Areas We Treat

    • Trauma and PTSD, including complex trauma, developmental and attachment trauma, and medical trauma. Visit our dedicated trauma and PTSD counselling in Melbourne page for a full breakdown of what treatment involves, or read about complex PTSD if your trauma developed over time rather than from a single event.
    • Grief, loss and adjustment, including bereavement, separation, health-related loss and identity or life-stage transitions. Visit our grief and loss counselling page.
    • Neurodivergence-related distress, including trauma, anxiety or relationship difficulties connected to ADHD, autism or other neurological differences.
    • Anxiety, depression and burnout, including difficulty telling the two apart and building sustainable coping strategies.
    • Relationship and family difficulties, including trust, communication and adjustment within relationships.

    What to Expect in Therapy

Your first session is a conversation, not an assessment interrogation. We talk through what has brought you in, what you would like support with, and how you would prefer to work. You set the pace throughout. You are never required to share more than you are ready to.

Sessions typically run 50 minutes. We offer both face-to-face appointments in Moorabbin and Chelsea Heights and telehealth appointments for clients anywhere in Australia, including after-hours availability. Everything you share is confidential, within the standard legal limits that apply to all registered psychologists in Australia.

    Why Choose Living Nurture Psychology?

Our psychologists work from a trauma-informed and neurodivergence-affirming lens, which means treatment is shaped around your nervous system and your history, not a generic template. We support the whole picture, including how trauma, grief or neurodivergence intersect with work, parenting and relationships, and we adjust our approach as you change rather than holding you to a fixed program.

    Fees, Rebates and Telehealth

Medicare rebates are available with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, and private health rebates may apply depending on your fund and cover. See our Fees and Rebates page for current session fees and rebate amounts. Telehealth appointments are available across Australia for clients who cannot attend in person.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a clinical psychologist and a psychologist?

Both are AHPRA-registered, but a clinical psychologist has completed additional postgraduate training in the assessment and treatment of complex mental health conditions. Our team’s specific registrations are outlined on our About page.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist at Living Nurture Psychology?
No referral is required to book an appointment. A GP referral and a Mental Health Treatment Plan are only needed if you want to claim a Medicare rebate.
    Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. We offer telehealth appointments across Australia, alongside face-to-face sessions at our Moorabbin and Chelsea Heights locations, including after-hours options.

How do I know which treatment approach is right for me?
You do not need to decide this yourself. Your psychologist will discuss your history and goals with you and recommend an approach, which may combine methods such as EMDR, IFS or ACT, adjusting it as therapy progresses.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate for clinical psychology treatment?

Yes, with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. See our Fees and Rebates page for current rebate amounts and private health fund options.

What age groups do you work with?

Individual therapy is available for clients aged 12 and over. For clients under 12, we involve family in a case-by-case approach to therapy.
